Purpose: This agreement, based on Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the Society’s “Conflict of Interest Committee Bylaws,” ensures fair COI management among Society members.
COI Declarations by Officers:
• The President, Vice President, Directors, General President, Journal Editors, Auditors, and General Affairs Committee Members must declare their COI upon appointment and annually. Any new COI must be reported.
COI Declarations for Presenters:
• All presenters at Society meetings, whether members or not, must declare any financial relationships with companies or organizations related to their research from the past year. The lead presenter must include the COI disclosure on the second slide (after title/presenter slide) or at the end of a poster presentation.
COI Self-Reporting Standards:
• Holding executive roles in companies/organizations: over 1 million yen annually
• Stock ownership: profits over 1 million yen or over 5% of total shares
• Patent royalties: over 1 million yen per year
• Lecture fees: over 500,000 yen per company per year
• Writing fees: over 500,000 yen per company per year
• Research funding via contract: over 1 million yen per year
• Donations (incentives): over 1 million yen per year to individual or department
• Affiliation with endowed chairs from companies
• Travel/gifts not related to research: over 50,000 yen per year
Note: COI must be disclosed if related to the presentation, even if directed to the presenter’s department.
